EXPERTISE, VALUES, AND OUTRAGEOUSNESS

The Impact of Values

Our values permeate everything we do, and everything we are. No matter what we do in life, there is always someone who will know more or will know different aspects of what we do. What makes us special, and/or makes people want to work with us, is who we are and what values we emanate from every pore of our being.

Unfortunately, in the days of Covid, I have clients who feel so limited because of constraints placed on us and who are very frustrated by the variety of mixed messages we are hearing. This all forces each one of us to know our individual values in this and if they relate to how we are
doing our business. I truly believe that when we are clear on what we believe, when we can without apology, stand by those beliefs, everyone we work with will be more comfortable. Some groups are gathering but you must be doubly vaccinated to attend the meetings. Other groups allow everyone and those who want to wear masks can and those who don’t, don’t need to. If those guidelines don’t make you happy, either attend virtually or choose to take a leave of absence. Whatever supports you in living your truth will support everyone feeling far more comfortable.

From the beginning, some have said that Covid was a total curse. Others have said they would never have chosen it but it gave them time at home which, after a period of adjustment, they came to cherish. Now that it is dragging on, we are being reminded that some decisions need to be made more than once. So, is it going to be a curse or an opportunity for growth, personally and professionally for you as we enter another fall and winter?

Yes, our values are being tested over a far longer period than we have hoped. Have yours changed? Are they the same as they were? Do you know what yours are? As colder weather starts will you be eating outside around heaters? Will you be going to local restaurants? Will you meet with clients? Employees? I know mine. Sticking with them isn’t always easy when people close to me have other ideas and wants yet going against my truth feels awful. I choose my truth. Remember, when you are going against what you believe or frightened of defining what you
believe because it means you will be forced to make a choice, living in self-betrayal always has a cost, and frequently it is far greater than you imagined. Others sense it and feel uncomfortable around you even if they don’t know why. Know who you are. Respect your values and live accordingly. You and all those around you will have far more peace and a far happier and more productive time, whether in person or on Zoom. Inner peace is what creates health on all levels, emotionally, spiritually, physically, and energetically.

Wishing you a peace-filled week.

Very nicely said - excellent food for thought. I did this exercise over a decade ago and never looked back. You are right that when we have clarity on what we truly want and can be our authentic selves - that is when the inner peace comes into play, as you shared, and for me it was freedom and joy.
